"In recent decades, during which our generation has operated the Eames Office, I've come to realise how another form of authenticity was important to Charles and Ray. This is the notion that the chair the Eameses were really designing is the one Vitra will produce tomorrow. Charles and Ray knew that if they had to personally touch every chair for it to be considered authentic – something that was already impractical during their lifetime – not only would the benefits of mass production be lost, but authenticity would die with them. So, they focused on creating systems to ensure that authenticity could be preserved."
