B&B Italia: Sofa So Good

Italian brand B&B Italia is undoubtedly one of the most innovative and creative designer furniture companies in the world, and in 2017 it teamed up with "heavyweight" designer Piero Lissoni for the SAKÉ sofa collection.

As one of the most prolific, successful and sought-after designers of the last 30 years, the list of companies and brands Piero Lissoni has worked with is extensive. From furniture to cars, the Milan-based designer recently collaborated with Italian brand B&B Italia to produce a flexible sofa collection that can be configured as a sofa, chaise longue or sofa bed.

The Italian brand has been collaborating with numerous internationally renowned designers such as Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola, Naoto Fukasawa, Jasper Morrison, among others. It's no surprise that the brand has produced over 1000 designs since it opened its doors in 1966.

The sofa collection is called Saké . While they were in a Japanese restaurant drinking saké, the brand's founder, Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, told Lissoni "sooner or later, you will work with me!". The name Saké pays homage to that moment, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Contemporary and simple, the Saké sofa collection is emblematic. Lissoni himself describes it as "minimalist, simple and elegant". His aim for these pieces was to create a feeling of lightness. Available in 3 sizes (175cm, 210cm and 270cm), with arms positioned at right angles to create a modern box-shaped feel, or angled to create a softer wraparound effect, the various elements can be configured to be adapted to any space.

The cushions are cozy but not heavy, and there is a wide range of fabrics available, including wool, natural linen, velvet in neutral tones, bold colors and darker tones. Also in the Italian style, there are 6 varieties of high quality leather.

“This design comes from the search for lightness. A technological platform, magically suspended in the air like a flying carpet, with cushions added to close the borders, and finally, legs to ground it.

This is the basic idea of ​​the SAKé collection, made up of pieces for seating and sleeping, designed in a simply contemporary language, connected with my proportions. I liked the idea of ​​following in the wake of B&B Italia, of modernity.
