Eames Lounge Chair
Charles & Ray Eames, 1956
Charles Eames began the development of the Lounge Chair , a process that took several years, with the aim of satisfying the desire to create a chair of broad proportions that combined maximum comfort with the highest quality materials and workmanship.
The armchair designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956 set new standards: not only is it lighter, more elegant and more modern than the conventionally heavy armchair but it is also more comfortable. Thanks to these qualities, the Lounge Chair became one of Charles and Ray Eames' most famous designs and achieved the status of a classic in the history of modern furniture and design.
The Lounge Chair is available in two sizes: with classic dimensions and new, larger dimensions. Furthermore, the various combinations of leather upholstery, wooden shells and bases are now complemented by a white edition and a black edition with matching details.
Since the Lounge Chair went into production, the average human height has increased by almost 10 cm worldwide. In coordination with Eames Office, Vitra has developed a new, larger version so that taller people can also enjoy the same comfort.
Vitra has been producing the Charles and Ray Eames Lounge Chair using the same manufacturing methods since the 1950s. In consultation with the Eames Office, Vitra has now expanded the selection to include new color combinations of upholstery, wood veneers and carefully crafted bases. selected.
