A house in the heart of Silicon Valley

A young couple challenged Studio VARA to design a small, flexible house but with a big presence.

To solve this challenge, Studio VARA conceived a house like a Rubik's Cube of tightly interconnected spaces that expand into a landscape of intimate and generous outdoor environments.
To achieve lightness and a compact, rectilinear design, different materials were used such as cement on the floor, wood on the main floor and dark zinc on the upper floor.
Inside, sophisticated materials and details make the home feel grand and luxurious. Uninterrupted floor-to-ceiling glass walls allow the outdoors and light in and maximize sight lines for a feeling of a larger space. Texture, color and furnishings were meticulously chosen to ensure a perfect fit, resulting in a home that feels rich, spacious and elegant.
Around the perimeter of the courtyard, three sliding glass doors open onto a series of different decks that blur the lines between inside and outside.
