One of the most beloved decorative objects in Charles and Ray Eames' home was a black wooden bird known as the Eames House Bird. The bird can be seen in many photos of the famous design couple and even appeared on a commercial poster for Eames chairs. The original wooden bird was a piece of folk art from the Appalachian Mountains that Charles and Ray Eames found on their travels. Like the original model, Vitra's Eames House Bird is made from painted alder with steel wire legs.
