Vitra's Moca Chair is a great example of British designer Jasper Morrison's "supernormal" design, which emphasizes usability, responsibility and a simple design language without unnecessary gimmicks - but always honed to perfection. Designed in 2020, Moca was created to last from generation to generation, both in terms of quality and its timeless aesthetic.
The Moca's frame consists of two metal tubes, one of which forms its back legs and the other its front legs, as well as the backrest support. The seat and back are made of veneered plywood, which makes the chair lightweight and therefore easy to move or stack. Peering underneath the chair reveals a discreet but practical detail, very typical of Morrison: the underside of the seat is covered in a useful guard that prevents the veneer surface from being scratched when the chair is stacked.
