The Vitra Standard Chair, designed by Jean Prouvé in 1934, has a special metal frame inspired by Prouvé's engineering background. Since most of the user's weight is supported by the back legs of the chair, Prouvé decided to place large, hollow steel legs in the back and thin legs in the front of the chair. With its pleasantly shaped plywood seat and back, the Standard Chair is excellent for use as a dining chair and its design matches perfectly with the EM Table designed by Prouvé.
